We were on strike ,in fact some of the areas were under watch and there was no plying of vehicles,every thing was being obtuse,day was full of moaning all around the valley.It was really horrible strike,i just went out my home some 1km,there i could find clean roads but full of stones,tear gas cans all way scattered,tyres being burnt on the middle of road.People shouting and police after them to disperse the big crowd.
So today's sum is some how like this:-
The outrage against the death of two young women after their alleged rape by armed troopers Sunday intensified in this south Kashmir town as hundreds of people took to streets for the second consecutive day to stage protests defying an undeclared curfew. Police lobbed scores of teargas shells to quell the protests and even assaulted mourners, injuring more than 40 of them.
At Bonagam chowk near the residence of the deceased women, protesters, who included a large number of women, held at sit-in and obstructed vehicular traffic on the Shopian-Pulwama road. Shouting anti-India and anti-police slogans, they demanded that the murderers should be presented before public and given stern punishment.
“This is the worst kind of tragedy we have seen here in the past two decades of conflict. Our daughters were picked in broad daylight, raped and then murdered. We won’t budge an inch till the killers are punished,” the protesters said.
The protesters accused the police and the district administration of trying to hush up the case. “Till the time Asiya and her sister-in-law, Neelofar, were missing, police was cooperating with the family. But once the bodies were spotted, its role became dubious and suspicious,” said Javaid Ahmad, one of the family’s neighbours. “The police never wanted the people to know the actual story. They lobbed teargas shells when a team of doctors were conducting the post mortem on the bodies.”
Police cane charged the protesters several times through the lanes and by-lanes in Bonagam and even barged into residential houses including that of the deceased and beat-up the inmates, including the mourners.
“It is shocking that the family, friends and relatives who have come here to mourn the deaths are beaten by police. Don’t we have a right to protest against the deaths and the outrageous acts against our daughters,” asked a woman protester, Shafiqa.
Protesters had enforced blockades and burnt tyres at several places on Shopian-Pulwama road at Tukroo, Kaygam, Shirmaal and Arahama. At Tukroo, angry protesters, who had blocked the roads by placing wooden logs across these, attacked the cavalcade of the divisional commissioner, Masud Samoon, and the inspector-general of police, Dr B Srinivas, who were on way to Shopian. Their personal guards chased the protesters and resorted to aerial firing to disperse them but the latter retaliated by stone pelting. At least 12 persons were injured in the clashes. The officials had abandon their visit and return to Srinagar.
In the afternoon, the situation tuned violent in Shopian town where protesters led by the members of Hurriyat Conference (M) delegation clashed with the police. While protesters tried to take out a procession, policemen deployed in large numbers barred them by lobbing teargas shells injuring 20 persons. The intermittent clashes continued to late evening.
AYYUB JAVED ADDS FROM PULWAMA:
The situation remained tense in this town with protesters and policemen fighting pitched battles amid a complete shutdown. Nine persons including four policemen were injured during the clashes. Seven protesters were arrested by police.
A massive deployment of policemen and paramilitary CRPF troopers had been made in the town to deal with protesters who made several attempts to take out processions.
At Murran and Rajpora, scores of protesters assembled to take out processions towards Pulwama. Raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters demanded the murderers of the women be presented before the people. However, police swung into action to disperse the protesters.
Meanwhile, a group of nine doctors from Pulwama and Shopian held deliberations on the post mortem report of Neelofer and Asiya at the office of the chief medical officer today. After three hours, they prepared the report for final opinion from forensic laboratory. A copy of the report was handed over to the BMO besides the divisional commissioner, the deputy commissioner and the SP. Asked to comment on their findings, the doctors said, “everything has been projected neatly and honestly” and the final report will be issued by forensic lab soon on the cause of death.
